Overview of Hanoi Airport - Noi Bai Airport

Situated about 35km north of the center of Vietnam’s colorful capital, Noi Bai International Airport is the biggest airport in northern Vietnam. It takes you about 45 minutes to transfer from Hanoi Airport to Hanoi (slightly longer during peak hours). Here there are 2 terminals: T1 (domestic terminal) and T2 (international terminal).

The distance between these two terminals is about 850 meters. And both of them have four floors fully equipped with modern and professional services such as ATM, duty-free shops, transportation to Hanoi, restaurant, free wifi, and massage services. Meanwhile, T2 opened at the end of 2014. This new terminal offers ten self-service kiosks, 96 check-in counters, 17 boarding gates, and 283 flight information display systems.

On the path from Noi Bai Airport to Hanoi city center, the tourists absolutely can take a chance to relax and admire the passing views of meadows and farmland with an awesome view over the Red River and the banana plantations on its banks, before proceeding through the newer sections of the city and into the Hanoi’s charming Old Quarter.

Important

Travelers to Vietnam are regularly overcharged by taxi drivers who operate from Noi Bai airport. So please be careful when leaving the airport and don’t give in to peer pressure.

Visas

It is necessary that you either have a visa letter already in your passport (attainable through a foreign Vietnamese embassy) or a ‘letter of introduction’ supplied by a company or tour operator, such as Asia Best Travel who will also provide an application form. And then you must fill out in full before arrival.

Coming to Noi Bai Airport, you will find the ‘Visa Application’ or ‘Visa on Arrival’ stations at the airport to hand over your letter of introduction, completed application form, two passport photos, and your passport. Once your visa is approved, pay your visa stamp fee and collect your passport before proceeding to customs check.
